PERSONAL STATEMENT
Translation is more than a job to me - it's a passion, which is a very cliché thing to say, but also very true. I could probably write an entire thesis about what I find fascinating about translation - how it creates bridges between cultures, how it expands ideas and knowledge, or simply how it allows you to enjoy a good book or a good film from any part of the world which wouldn't be accessible to you otherwise.
However, it is simpler than all this. To quote the famous application letter by screenwriter Robert Pirosh to MGM, "I like words". I would also add that I like to share them with as many people, in as many parts of the world as I can and, after working as a translator for seven years now, this passion has only grown.
Let me help you share your idea, your product, or art with the world.
CV

Since I graduated from the University of Porto with a degree in Applied Languages, I have had the opportunity to work as a translator on a freelance basis, as well as in-house. This has given me great insight into what is required of a translator on both situations.
My work as a freelance translator taught me to be resourceful and to work efficiently in a very competitive market where I need to provide quality work on often very tight deadlines. It also taught me to be relentless and persistent when it comes to finding jobs.
My in-house experience comes from a five months traineeship at the Directorate General for Translator in the European Commission. There, I received the best training on translation software and, even though the deadlines weren’t as tight as on my work as a freelance, the quality of the translations needed to be excellent, since they were all made available to the general public and published on a terminology database.
After returning from the European Commission, I resumed my work as a freelance translator and, since early 2015, my main occupation has been the translation, proofreading and quality control of subtitles for Netflix.
In late 2018, I started working with PSB - Produções Audiovisuais as a subtitler and translator. This is one of the main providers of subtitles for Portuguese cable and national TV.
